Little Alaskan is a children’s clothing shop and in-house kids’ brand from Kenai, Alaska. Shelby and Mike Oden started with Briar&Boone in 2018, making handmade kuspuks, bibs, dresses, blankets, and loveys before opening a storefront for local families. The shop now mixes Little Alaskan originals, secondhand children’s clothing, Alaskan books, baby items, toys, and work from local makers.

The ownership is easy to trace. Little Alaskan’s about page is written in Shelby’s voice and names her husband Mike, their children Briar and Boone, and the family’s first business, Briar&Boone. The Alaska Small Business Development Center separately profiles Little Alaskan as a family-owned children’s boutique run by Shelby and Mike Oden in Kenai. Shelby Oden’s LinkedIn profile also identifies her as owner of Little Alaskan and describes the store as a family-owned local option for children’s clothing and gifts. We found no corporate parent, acquisition record, or match in the corporate-parent exclusion list.

Little Alaskan earns its place here for two reasons. First, the shop supports a more circular approach to kids’ clothing by buying and reselling quality secondhand pieces under its “Used, but not used up” section. Children outgrow clothes fast. Keeping good garments in rotation is a practical clean-living move, not a lifestyle performance.

Second, the brand makes its own Alaskan-print clothing with durability in mind. The prints are designed to hide stains, survive real kid use, and hold enough value that families can sell pieces back to the shop. That is a better model than buying cheap baby clothes, watching them pill after three washes, and starting over.

This is not a fully organic basics company, and not every item in the store is made by Little Alaskan. We like that the model is transparent: local retail, secondhand curation, handmade roots, and a small original line shaped by the realities of raising kids in Alaska.
