Black Tooth Brewing Company opened in Sheridan, Wyoming in November 2010. Founder and owner Tim Barnes built the brewery from the ground up in a state that wasn't exactly swimming in craft beer culture, and fifteen years later it's Wyoming's most decorated brewery—nearly 100 awards and still counting. The name comes from the profile of a distinctive mountain peak in the Bighorns visible from Sheridan, as Wyoming as it gets.

Barnes has kept the brewery fiercely independent since day one. No outside investors. No acquisition conversations. Two taprooms—Sheridan and Cheyenne—that serve as genuine community gathering spots rather than just attached merch booths. Black Tooth sponsors everything from Toys for Tots to search-and-rescue fundraisers to local arts events. It's a brewery that's woven into Sheridan's civic life, not just its bar tabs.

The brewing itself holds up under competition. The Saddle Bronc Brown Ale won a World Beer Cup bronze medal—the most prestigious international beer competition in the world. In 2021, Black Tooth was tapped to brew 307 Lager, officially designated the State Beer of Wyoming. At 4.2% ABV, it's malty and approachable, designed to be enjoyed on a Wyoming summer evening rather than pondered over. That combination of accessibility and craft quality is what's kept the brand strong across the whole state.

Beers rotate with the seasons, and the taprooms get small-batch releases that don't make it to cans. Their canned lineup reaches retail shelves statewide. Local brewing, local roots, no corporate owners looking over the shoulder.
