Milo's Tea Company is a Bessemer, Alabama beverage maker with roots in the original Milo's restaurant, opened by Milo and Bea Carlton in Birmingham in 1946. The tea eventually became its own company, and today Milo's sells refrigerated teas and lemonades through grocery stores across the country.

The independence case is unusually public for a brand this large. Milo's own history page says the company is still family-owned and certified women-owned. Harvard Business School describes Milo's as a family-owned business led by third-generation Chair and CEO Tricia Wallwork. Food Dive goes further: Wallwork told the publication the family has chosen to keep Milo's a multi-generational family business despite interest from beverage companies and private equity firms. The Women Owned directory also lists Milo's as a women-owned food and beverage brand. We found no corporate parent, acquisition record, or exclusion-list match.

Clean shoppers should start with the tea, not the whole cooler shelf. Milo's Famous Unsweet Tea is just filtered water and fresh brewed tea. The sweet tea adds pure cane sugar. That is simple, but not low-sugar. Some lemonade and fruit-punch products include natural flavors, so read the label if that matters in your house.

What Milo's does well is make mainstream refrigerated tea without preservatives, artificial colors, or the usual mystery blend of additives. The brand also points to Non-GMO claims and zero-waste manufacturing work, including Platinum-Certified Zero Waste language on its site.
