Rogue Life Maine traces its roots back to 1969, when Lionel and Diane Rodrigue bought a small trophy and awards shop in Lewiston. Over the decades, the family business evolved — first into hockey gear manufacturing under the Rogue Wear name, then into broader athletic equipment. By the time their son Mark and his wife Debbie took over in 2009, the Rodrigues had been making durable goods in Maine for four decades.
In 2020, Mark partnered with childhood friend Judy Hall to launch Rogue Life Maine, channeling all that manufacturing experience into a new direction: handcrafted canvas bags built for Maine's four-season lifestyle. Every bag — totes, backpacks, duffels, hip packs, wristlets — is cut and sewn in the Lewiston factory where Mark grew up watching his parents work.
The bags are built from canvas and Cordura, materials chosen for how they hold up against salt air, trail dust, and grocery runs. The aesthetic leans rugged and unfussy. These aren't bags designed for Instagram flat-lays; they're built to get loaded up at the farmers market, tossed in the bed of a truck, and dragged through a trailhead parking lot. Each one ships with a five-year guarantee, though the company's own line — "the trick is you won't need it" — suggests they're built to last longer than that.
The family also operates a 14-acre Christmas tree farm, which gives you a sense of the Rodrigues' relationship with the land. Rogue Life isn't a lifestyle brand cosplaying as rugged; it's a family that's been making things and working outdoors in Maine for more than fifty years.
Mark and Debbie still run the operation alongside Judy. No venture capital, no private equity, no plans to offshore production. The bags are made in Lewiston. That's the whole story.
