Clarissa Smith and Jean Jorgensen started selling wildcrafted herbs out of Jackson, Wyoming in 1985 under the name Wyoming Wildcrafters. Forty years later — now called Wind River Herbs and based on a 100-acre farm in Star Valley Ranch — they're still making herbal extracts by hand from plants they grow and gather themselves.
The farm sits in western Wyoming where the Snake River Range meets the Salt River Range. At that elevation and climate, the growing season is short but intense. Clarissa and Jean cultivate medicinal herbs on their own acreage and forage others from the surrounding mountain terrain. They wildcraft responsibly, taking only what the land can sustain, and they've been doing it long enough to know exactly where each plant grows best.
Everything is processed on-site. Tinctures are made using traditional maceration methods — herbs steeped in alcohol for weeks, then pressed and filtered. No heat extraction, no shortcuts that trade potency for speed. The bulk herbal teas are blended and packaged at the farm. Their arnica oil, one of the standout products, uses arnica flowers gathered from Wyoming mountain meadows and infused in organic olive oil.
The product line spans several dozen herbal extracts covering common needs: immune support, digestive health, nervous system support, respiratory health. They also make a small collection of natural body care products — salves, oils, and balms formulated with their own farm-grown herbs.
Orders ship from Wyoming with free shipping on purchases over $50. The website is straightforward, with detailed descriptions of each herb's traditional uses. No hype, no miracle claims — just a clear accounting of what's in the bottle and where it came from.
Four decades of continuous production from the same founders, on their own land, with their own hands. In the supplement industry, that kind of provenance is rare enough to matter.
