Dakota Regenerative is a diversified ranch owned and operated by fourth-generation rancher Joshua Johnson, located outside of Bison, South Dakota. Since 2016, Josh has been raising livestock and crops using regenerative agriculture practices to produce ethically raised, grass-fed beef while actively restoring the native prairie ecosystem of western South Dakota. The ranch is rebuilding soil on 160 acres of formerly conventional cropland and restoring native prairie on 1,400 acres of formerly conventional pastureland.

The ranch employs mob grazing—a rotational grazing system that moves cattle daily or several times daily across small paddocks using portable electric fencing. This high-impact, short-duration grazing followed by long rest periods mimics the historic movement of bison across South Dakota's shortgrass prairie, resulting in improved soil health, increased biodiversity, and nutrient-dense beef. Josh markets his beef directly to consumers because he believes in reconnecting producer and consumer, offering GMO-free, hormone-free, and antibiotic-free Black Angus beef raised the way nature intended.
