Fort Benton sits in the heart of Montana wheat country. It's called the birthplace of Montana, and Montana Flour & Grains has been operating there for over 40 years — sourcing grain directly from a network of 150+ family farms in Montana, neighboring states, and Canada, milling it, and selling it to bakers and food manufacturers who care about where their flour comes from.

They opened their first grain cleaning facility in 1992. A second, larger facility followed in 2006. Their micronizer mill produces flour at cool temperatures without tempering — meaning they don't add water to the wheat before milling, which most commercial mills do. The result is flour that's drier and more consistent, with better shelf life and baking performance.

Montana Flour & Grains is also the sole U.S. agent for KAMUT® brand grain, an heirloom spring wheat with ancient origins and a distinctly buttery, nutty flavor. They provide grower support and manage the supply chain for this grain specifically — it's not something you can just source elsewhere in the U.S.

Their product range covers both certified organic and conventional grains: hard red and hard white wheat (Montana-grown wheat earns strong international recognition for protein quality), spelt, rye, pulse crops, and durum. Many of their organic grains ship internationally to customers who can't find this level of quality locally.

The company's philosophy is direct: the farmers they buy from and the customers they sell to are equal links in the food chain. They've spent four decades building long-term relationships on both sides, and it shows in the consistency of what they produce.
