Idahound makes raw dog food in Carey, Idaho — a town of about 600 people in the Wood River Valley. The company was founded in 2014 by Chris Cey, a high school science teacher, along with John David Davidson and Alec Barfield. The three of them butcher, process, and package everything themselves at their own FDA-inspected facility. No co-packers, no contract manufacturers, no middlemen between the animal and the bowl.

The founders are blunt about their business model. They've stated publicly that Idahound is "completely self-funded" and "not driven by the possibility of being acquired by a larger company and cashing out." In a raw pet food market where nearly every brand with traction gets a PE offer within five years, that's a deliberate stance, not a default one.

Their protein sources come from Idaho ranches — grass-fed beef, lamb, rabbit, and sheep — mixed with organic vegetables. The sheep formula is a standout. Most raw pet food companies don't touch sheep because the supply chain is harder to manage at small scale. Idahound can do it because they're in sheep country and they process everything in-house.

Each formula follows a straightforward ratio: muscle meat, organ meat, bone, and organic produce. The ingredient lists read like a butcher's receipt, not a chemistry set. No synthetic vitamins added as afterthoughts, no grain fillers, no mystery "natural flavors."

They also produce dehydrated treats and bone broth, both made from the same locally sourced proteins. Everything ships nationwide via UPS from their Carey facility.

The operation stays intentionally small. Three founders, one facility, direct relationships with local ranchers. Growth comes from demand, not from investor timelines. For dog owners who care about knowing exactly where their pet's food was made and by whom, Idahound removes the guesswork entirely.
