"Grass-fed" is one of the most misleading labels in the food industry. The USDA withdrew its grass-fed standard in 2016, leaving the term largely unregulated. Many "grass-fed" products come from animals that spent months in feedlots being finished on grain—a practice that changes the fat composition, nutrient density, and inflammatory profile of the meat and dairy. - Verified sourcing — American Grassfed Association certified, PCO 100% Grassfed, or other third-party verification. Self-declared "grass-fed" without verification is meaningless
- Superior nutrition profile — True grass-fed products have higher omega-3 fatty acids, more CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), higher vitamin E, and a healthier omega-6 to omega-3 ratio
- Year-round pasture access — In regions with winter, how animals are fed during non-grazing months matters. Hay and forage from the ranch vs. supplemental grain
